I believe our readers would become better acquainted with the dangers earth faces by reading speculations about what it would be like if scientists predicted that the earth would be hit by an asteroid the size of France, and subsequent calculations confirmed that it would occur. If you are a writer, please use your imagination to tell a story or speculate about how you think life would proceed on earth in a variety of scenarios. We will post the most compelling of your speculations here. Send your entries to speculations@thrusterproject.org
What do you think life would be like on earth, if we knew that we faced an extinction level event?
What if the asteroid was due in 5 years?
What if the asteroid was due in 20 years?
What if the asteroid was due in 50 years?
What do you think people would do differently? What would change?
Speculations on the Flood
What do you think might happen if a gigantic portion of the Antarctic ice sheet broke off into the ocean? It has been variously estimated that this could cause ocean levels to rise by 17 to 30 feet. Virtually all sea port cities would be flooded, and many island nations might be completely covered with water.
What if this happened slowly, and the oceans rose by 2 feet a year as the sheet melted.
What if this happened in one big swoop? Whoomph! The seas rise by 17 feet, perhaps with a little wave in front of the oncoming waters.
